FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Whether you're considering a private session or joining a breathwork circle, it's natural to have questions.
Here are a few things you might like to know before getting started.
GETTING STARTED
-
Absolutely. You don't need any previous experience with breathwork to attend a circle or book a private session.
We'll take time to explain the process, explore any questions you have and help you become comfortable before we begin.
There's no particular way you need to breathe perfectly, no experience you need to create and nothing you need to achieve. We begin wherever you are.
-
A breathwork circle is a little different from what you might imagine a traditional breathwork class to be.
Rather than following a series of breathing exercises, you're guided through an extended breathwork journey, supported by music, facilitation, and attuned touch and bodywork, always guided by your comfort and consent.
We begin with conversation and time to settle into the space, before moving into the breathwork experience.
Although we come together as a group, each person's experience is their own. There's no expectation to feel, express or experience anything in particular.
-
Both offer an opportunity to explore breathwork, but the experience is a little different.
A 1:1 session gives us time and space to focus entirely on you. We can spend longer in conversation, explore what's happening in your life and allow the session to unfold around your individual needs.
A circle offers a shared experience, where you're supported by the facilitators and the presence of others, while still having your own personal journey.
Neither is necessarily better than the other. It comes down to what you're looking for and what feels right for you.
If you're unsure, you're always welcome to get in touch and we can have a conversation about it.
-
Not at all. You don't need to arrive with a particular problem, intention or something you want to change.
Some people come because they're moving through something difficult or noticing familiar patterns in their lives. Others are simply curious about themselves, their bodies or what the experience might offer.
Sometimes we begin with something specific to explore, and sometimes we don't.
There's room for both. We start with where you are, without needing to decide in advance where the experience should take you.
THE BREATHWORK EXPERIENCE
-
Everyone experiences breathwork differently, and even your own experience can vary from one session to the next.
You might notice physical sensations, emotions, memories, thoughts or moments of stillness. Sometimes the experience feels subtle, and other times there may be more happening.
There's no particular feeling you're meant to have or outcome you're working towards.
My role is to stay attentive to what's happening for you, offering support and facilitation along the way, while allowing your experience to unfold at its own pace.
-
A range of emotions and sensations can arise during breathwork, although everyone's experience is different.
There's no expectation to feel, express or release anything in particular.
Whatever comes up, we'll meet it with curiosity and care. We follow your pace, without forcing anything or pushing you beyond what feels manageable.
-
Attuned touch and bodywork are an important part of how I facilitate breathwork.
Throughout a journey, I pay attention to your breath, body and responses, offering touch and bodywork where it may support your experience.
This might involve gentle contact, supportive pressure or other forms of bodywork, depending on what's happening for you.
Touch is always guided by your comfort and consent. You're welcome to receive it, decline it or change your mind at any point.
No two people need the same thing, and the way I facilitate reflects that.
-
We allow time at the end of each journey to settle, reconnect and begin integrating the experience.
Sometimes there's something you'd like to talk about, and sometimes you'd prefer to sit quietly with what's happened. There's no pressure to share.
After a private session, I'll also check in with you over the following days. Whether you've attended a private session or a circle, you're always welcome to reach out if questions arise or there's something you'd like to share or explore further.
Integration doesn't always happen in the room. Sometimes it's in the days that follow that you begin noticing what the experience means for you.
PRACTICAL QUESTIONS
-
There's no special preparation needed, but I recommend allowing yourself a little space before and after your session or circle where possible.
Wear something comfortable that allows you to move and breathe freely. It's also a good idea to avoid arriving immediately after a large meal.
Most importantly, there's no need to arrive feeling calm, relaxed or ready for anything in particular. Come as you are.
-
Comfortable clothing and a water bottle are a good place to start.
For breathwork circles, mats, bolsters and blankets are provided, so you can settle into the space comfortably.
For private sessions, everything you need for the breathwork experience is provided.
You're welcome to bring anything small that helps you feel comfortable, such as an extra layer of clothing.
-
Breathwork can involve changes in breathing patterns and may bring up physical sensations or emotional experiences, so it's important to consider whether the practice is appropriate for you.
Before attending, you'll be asked to complete a form sharing relevant health information so we can consider your individual circumstances.
Some health conditions or circumstances may mean that this style of breathwork isn't appropriate, or that we need to discuss a different approach.
If you're unsure, please reach out before booking. I'm happy to talk through any questions and help you understand whether this practice may be suitable for you.
